The office of High Sheriff has its origins in Anglo-Saxon England in the 10th century with the position in Sussex being almost continuously occupied since that time.  Dr Tim Fooks is the first medical High Sheriff of West Sussex and the first person to carry out the role twice in Sussex since 1551. His Royal Warrant requires him to ‘take the Custody and Charge’ of the county for the year of his appointment. But what does this mean in the 21st Century?  Dr Fooks will unpack the history of this ancient office and explore how its royal connection and independence continue to create a unique opportunity to strengthen our county and its communities.’

So why not come along to the Fernhurst Hub and learn more about it.
