The wonderful sculptures, forged and fabricated in steel by local Blacksmith Andrew Brighty, were named by Kerry Morren-Jeffs, who could visualise the musical theme, stating ‘music unites people of all backgrounds. I imagined the sound of music being carried on the breeze and the joy and hope this would bring’. How very apt for this setting.
Brighty is now working on our fourth sculpture which will be sited in Petworth Road adjacent to the Town Hall. This will be a tribute to all the many volunteers who work in and around Haslemere and will be a wonderful way of thanking each and every one of them, especially over this last year, when they have supported the community so admirably.
Providing Haslemere with 4 bespoke pieces of artwork, of the size that they are and designed to be in situ for decades to come, is most certainly one of the biggest deliveries of art given to Haslemere, in the Town’s history. So this is certainly something to celebrate! There will be a formal unveiling on Sunday May 30th at 2:00 pm, around the sculpture on Lion Green to be performed by Michael More-Molynuex, the Lord Lieutenant for Surrey and Mathew Bowcock, co-founder and chair of the Beacon Collaborative.
Following the unveiling of the sculptures, there will be the final judging of the Scarecrow Competition with the famous children's book auther Julia Donaldson, whose works include The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom, as one of the judges. Please do come out and support this event with the family - more on this event can be read here.
