Haslemere Educational Museum boasts galleries, exhibit rooms and grounds
About
Haslemere Museum has three large permanent galleries and two temporary exhibit rooms as well as a library, archive and a dedicated education room. It displays over 240,000 natural history specimens, along with over 140,000 human history artefacts from around the world. The grounds of the museum cover an area of over 15,000 square metres. The grounds are home to a large pond and gazebo, an observation beehive and a tree trail that follows the museum's boundary through an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Their mission statement is 'to forward and advance the study of science, literature and the fine arts by means of a well-equipped museum of natural history and objects of art and of a scientific, literary and historical nature.' Admission is free but a voluntary donation is suggested. The museum galleries and grounds are open from Tuesdays to Saturdays between 10 am and 4.30 pm. The museum library is open on Tuesdays between 10 am and 3 pm.
Help Needed
The Museum has a long tradition of volunteer support. Volunteers are involved in all aspects of running the museum from greeting visitors to providing educational workshops for children. Volunteers are also involved in cataloging collections and gardening and much more.
