Chris Cope talk reveals that there is more to Holst than The Planets
A 75-minute talk given by Chris Cope, chair and founder of the Holst Society. Chris covers Holst’s life and, in particular, half a dozen works (excerpts played) which you may not have heard, but which he believes justify anyone thinking of exploring Holst’s output (over 300 works) beyond The Planets.
Chris will begin with music from the Edwardian era and then take you through the years of the Great War and into the 1920s and then right up to Holst’s death in 1934, ending with Holst’s final work, a Scherzo for orchestra.
Chris will play recordings of music for orchestra, chorus, brass band and solo voice. He is certain that you will be hearing music which you’ve never heard before and that you will be impatient to hear more.
