The objective is to improve the existing heathland by controlling the spread of rhododendron, birch, gorse and bracken to make space for the heather to spread and flourish. This year's focus will be to clear invasive growth along the sides of pathways, opening up the main footpaths, to improve access. The cleared vegetation is burnt on site, as this helps to keep the fertility low – the preferred state for heathlands.

Lycnhmere Society have a half-time stop for tea/coffee and for Gay's delicious sweet treats or anything else others care to bring along.

Know anyone?
Lynchmere Society are desperately seeking volunteers to host similar Volunteer Winter Works on their other commons. Just one person stepping up to lead can make a huge difference in how much invasive growth they’re able to clear. Please email if you can help; it's approx. 4 mornings a year, which can result in 10-30 people turning up. That can be 100-300 hours of collective effort!

Event information
Please follow the yellow way markers on the ground and look out for the smoke from the bonfire! Please make sure you bring thick gloves, loppers and/or handsaws. Rakes and forks are handy too. All are warmly invited and the team looks forward to seeing you.
