One of today's most celebrated guitarists, Sean Shibe returns to Grayshott Concerts to perform with the London Mozart Players in a programme that blends Baroque brilliance, Scottish inspiration and orchestral favourites.

Named by The Telegraph as one of the 10 brightest young stars in classical music, Shibe became the first guitarist to be selected as a BBC New Generation Artist (2012–14). A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, he has received the Royal Philharmonic Society Young Artist Award, a Gramophone Award and an Opus Klassik Award, while his album Lost & Found earned a 2024 Gramophone Award nomination. He has appeared at many of the world's leading concert venues, including Carnegie Hall, the BBC Proms, Wigmore Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie and the Vienna Konzerthaus.

The evening opens with the haunting beauty of Peter Maxwell Davies' Farewell to Stromness, followed by traditional Scottish melodies arranged from historic lute manuscripts. Sean Shibe then takes centre stage in two delightful concertos by Antonio Vivaldi: the sparkling Mandolin Concerto in C major (RV 425) and the much-loved Guitar Concerto in D major (RV 93), originally composed for the lute. His expressive playing and remarkable tonal palette reveal all the elegance, warmth and vitality of these Baroque masterpieces.

The first half concludes with the much-loved Cavatina by Stanley Myers, famously featured in The Deer Hunter.

Following the interval, the programme turns to contemporary Scotland with Jay Capperauld's energetic Schiehallion! and Sally Beamish's evocative The Day Dawn, before concluding with Grieg's exuberant Holberg Suite. Inspired by eighteenth-century dance forms yet filled with Grieg's unmistakable lyricism, the suite brings together elegance, warmth and irresistible rhythmic energy in a dazzling finale to the evening.
