Connect is Haslemere’s latest community group. Founded last year, its purpose is simple – a chance for people to get together and enjoy each other’s company. Hosted at the Haslemere Methodist Church café, everyone is welcome and all those attending will receive a warm welcome, complimentary tea, coffee and cake and plenty of friendly company. However, for those that enjoy activities, there is plenty to get stuck into each week too.
This week, Connect welcomed the local fire brigade who gave a really interesting fire safety talk. The team from the Haslemere Fire Station will also be following up with many of those who attended the talk by offering complimentary ‘Safe and Well’ visits. These ensure that people have sufficient fire protection in their homes as well as an effective evacuation plan in case of fire.
Connect also have a monthly Singalong on the third Thursday of each month. Other upcoming events include musical bingo, a beetle drive and curling. They’re also planning a trip to see Kiss me Kate at the Haslemere Hall this March. This comes on the back of two other very successful outings here - to Paddington in Peru and the fabulous pantomime.
The group is organised and run by Liza, with help from many others. Liza says, ‘We are very grateful to the Shottermill Great War Memorial Trust who gave us a generous grant to be able to start this group. Connect aims to provide a warm, welcoming, free place for people to meet and create community. The group meets twice weekly and we provide activities which reflect the interests of our members. This term we have art and craft projects, puzzles, board games, a variety of special events, singalong afternoons and trips to the theatre… and, of course, cake! We welcome new members - everyone is invited to drop-in and see what’s going on.’
Connect would love you to join them at one of their upcoming get-togethers. If you’d like to come along, the group meets every Monday and Thursday from 2 pm until 4 pm. For more information, please contact Liza on liza.hmc@hotmail.com. There is no need to book or let the group know in advance you would like to join in their activities. Just turn up!
