Gina is a local lady whose son, Josh, passed away last year. As anyone can imagine, the past few months have been incredibly painful as she grieves for his loss.

'Losing my son Josh, who was loved by so many, hurts in ways I didn’t know were possible. I have the most amazing support from my incredible family and friends. They have loved me, been there unconditionally, and are beside me every step of the way. Their strength is helping carry me through a time no parent should ever have to face. Even so, grief is deeply personal, and there are feelings and thoughts that are hard to share not because I am not supported, but because loss like this changes you in ways that are difficult to explain.'

Gina is currently taking time away from work to focus on trying to navigate her 'new' life and to be there for her family. But, incredibly, she also wants to turn this opportunity into something positive. As a result, she is taking on a series of challenges to raise money for charities that are close to her heart. Top of this list is Cruse Bereavement Support who have been helping Gina and her family to process their grief.

Cruse Bereavement Support is a national charity that helps people through one of the most painful times in life – with bereavement support, information and campaigning. They provide free support for those that need it, with their aim to make sure that nobody has to face grief alone. They offer a welcoming space to talk, understand emotions and find a way through loss.

In Gina's own words, 'I’m raising money for Cruse in memory of my son Josh because they are supporting me and my family with compassion and care. They do this for so many people living with loss, and they deserve to be there for anyone who needs them.'

Gina has already raised over £3500 for this incredible charity. She will soon be hiking Mount Snowdon at night in memory of Josh and to raise funds for Cruse Bereavement Support. She is also fundraising locally too.

If you would like to show your support for Gina and her family, there are a few ways you can do so. One is by signing up to this week's Pub Quiz at the Prince of Wales Hammervale. Taking place this Thursday 14 May 2026 at 7.30 pm, it is just £3 to enter with funds going directly to Cruse Bereavement Support. If you are unable to attend but would like to support Gina, you can also donate directly to Gina's fundraising page.

Again, in Gina's words, 'Thank you for helping me honour Josh, and for supporting a charity that truly understands grief.'
