In September 2025, we had the pleasure of catching up with one of the many local sports clubs and groups in our community - the Haslemere Border Athletics Club. This club is run by an enthusiastic and passionate team of local volunteers.

Based at the scenic Woolmer Hill sports grounds, Haslemere Border Athletics Club (HBAC) has been a staple of the local running community since 1959. The club adopted its current name in 1971 and continues to welcome runners of all levels — from seasoned athletes to those who simply enjoy a social jog.

With a dedicated team of seven coaches, HBAC offers a diverse range of training sessions, including structured track workouts, local trail runs, and community runs through the picturesque Devil’s Punchbowl in Hindhead.

Training Schedule:

●  Tuesdays: 7–8pm

●  Thursdays: 7–8pm

●  Saturdays: 9am (followed by coffee and cake!)

During the summer, week night sessions are held at Woolmer Hill, while in the winter months, training rotates around Haslemere, Liphook, and Hindhead to keep things fresh and accessible. For those recovering from injury or preferring a gentler pace, there's also a walking group that ensures everyone can stay involved and active.

Find Your Pace

The club caters to three pace groups, making it easy to find the right fit:

●  Gentle & Improvement – Perfect for beginners or those easing back into running

●  Mid-paced (Intermediate) – For steady, experienced runners

●  Fast-paced (Advanced) – For competitive and high-intensity runners

Exciting News for 2026

HBAC is launching a brand-new Juniors section starting April 18th, 2026 — an exciting opportunity for young runners to get involved. Keep an eye on the club’s website for updates.

Membership & Programmes

HBAC members regularly participate in races ranging from 5Ks to ultra-marathons.

●  Competing Membership: £50/year (includes a £20 England Athletics affiliation fee)

●  Social/Training Membership: £30/year

Newcomers are welcome to attend a few taster sessions before committing to a membership. If you're new to running, the club’s popular ‘Get Up and Run’ programmes — held twice a year — are designed to take you from walking to running 5K in just 10 weeks.

Whether you're looking to boost your cardio for another sport, train for an event, or simply run with others, it's clear that HBAC offers a supportive and inspiring environment.

More Than Just Running

Beyond training, the club has an active social calendar, including pub runs, Christmas light tours in London, and community engagement events. Members often take part in outreach initiatives, bringing the benefits of running and fitness to the wider community.
