Members of the Haslemere and Hindhead RNLI branch committee surprised Sheila Carr on her birthday with cake and champagne and Frances Reincke, the local branch chairman was honoured to award her the medal for her dedicated service over 54 years. The delay by 4 years being due to an oversight in 2021.

Sheila, a keen sailor, originally volunteered with the Woking fundraising branch and then moved to Haslemere in the 1990’s where she quickly became involved with the street collections and other fundraising work. Over the decades, she has not only contributed her time and energy to the fundraising efforts but also inspired fellow volunteers with her enthusiasm and unwavering support for the charity’s life-saving mission, raising many £1000s along the way.  Her story is a testament to the power of community spirit and the vital role volunteers play in supporting the RNLI’s ongoing work.
