Next month will see the launch of a brand new well-being group in Haslemere - Kintsugi Hope. We spoke to the volunteers - Lee and Helena - who are running this free course to find out more.
First and foremost, we had to ask exactly what a Kintsugi Hope group was. Put simply, it is a safe and supportive space helping attendees to develop practical tools to look after their well-being. The name comes from the Japanese technique of repairing broken pottery with seams of gold - Kintsugi. The art is a good representation of resilience and how broken pieces can be put together again to create something even more beautiful.
The group will run on Thursday evenings from 7.30 pm from mid April through to the end of the Summer term. It will include group discussions, activities and peer support while building up a toolkit to help those attending learn to become more resilient and find hope. The course will deal with some thought providing and meaty topics . Honesty, anxiety, depression, disappointment, loss, resilience, healthy relationships, anger, shame, forgiveness and self-acceptance will all be covered at some point.
The group is suitable for all adults who want to take care of their wellbeing and get support. Lee told us, 'Whether you're going through a rough time now or have been in the past you are all welcome to come and join in. This will be a space to share the challenges of life but also the good stuff. We are looking forward to some great discussions but also to enjoying plenty of laughter.'
The group runs from 16th April for the duration of the summer term. Refreshments are provided - did we mention there will be cake?!! - and it is completely free. It will be held at the Haslemere Methodist Church. The group will be run by local volunteers, Lee Lees and Helena Polson.
