Green drinks
We will hear about the recent national Transition Assembly event from Jane Devlin who attended on our behalf. And Ian Selvage will talk us through the environmental impact we make when using our phones and other devices. Come and share your views. Thursday 6 March from 7.30pm in the Snug at The Mill, Shottermill Road.
Online assembly
For those of us who were unable to go to the Transition Assembly in person, we can find out more about the proposed next steps at the Assemble Online event on Saturday 8 March 2-5pm. The event will reflect on Assembly deliberations and reveal out more about expected next steps for the movement. More information here. Transition Network has set up a platform called Vive which is now the main way of Transition groups communicating with each other. You can sign up here.
Zero Carbon moves house
Zero Carbon Guildford is moving to Unit 1, Riverside Business Park, Walnut Tree Close, from 18 March. The new site will continue to host a community fridge, Terracycle recycling for hard-to-recycle waste, River Testing Lab for environmental monitoring, home energy efficiency advice, library of things and Sustainable Business Network, as well as community events.
Positive news
The green sector is growing at triple the rate of the UK economy, providing high-wage jobs, cutting climate-heating emissions and increasing energy security. The net zero economy with 22,000 businesses employing almost a million people grew by 10% in 2024 and generated £83bn in gross value added. Recent analysis showed economic growth and climate action go together and improve lives and livelihoods. You can read more here.
Take part in Earth Day
A community day to share local action on the climate and biodiversity crisis. Talks, crafts, information, puppets and refreshments. 26 April 2025, 10.30am-3.30pm at Haslemere Museum. If you are part of a group or organisation who would like to participate and have a free stall, contact Kay Topping at education@haslemeremuseum.co.uk.
Farmers market and repair cafe
We will have our stall at the market on Saturday 1 March from 10am to 2pm. The Repair Cafe will be at the Swan Inn on the same day from 10am to 1pm.
Green coffee
An informal chat at the Courtyard Cafe off the High Street from 10am to 12 noon on the third Wednesday of the month. By arrangement only via our WhatsApp group. If you are not yet signed up, email us at info@transitionhaslemere.org.
