A youth group providing a safe, fun space for young people in Haslemere

About

A Place to Be is a youth group charity. It runs every Friday evening from 7 pm until 9 pm at Shottermill Junior School. All those in years 7, 8 and 9 are welcome to attend. A Place To Be is a privately run charity. They completely rely on the generosity of others to provide children the space to enjoy activities and to interact with their peers in a relaxing fun environment. They provide activities each week including sports and crafts. Youth worker and qualified counsellor, Holly, also offers mindfulness sessions each week at A Place To Be. Those attending are welcome to talk to Holly about anything they may have on their mind. What the young person says is confidential. However, should it be felt appropriate to do so, Holly may break this confidentiality if she is concerned that there could be harm to the young person or to someone else. Due to high demand for their services and low volunteer numbers, sessions are currently limited to 35-40 young people. If a child has not pre-booked, they will only be able to come as a 'walk in' if there are spaces available.

Help Needed

There are a number of opportunities to volunteer at A Place To Be. No experience is required as those without any prior experience will be put with an experienced member of the Youth Club team. Volunteers are needed to help run the A Place To Be tuck shop, to play sports with the young people as well as to get creative with their arts and crafts activities. Volunteers are also welcome just to be a friendly ear and face, and to chill with the young people in a quiet space. Whatever your preference, A Place To Be would love to hear from you. Volunteers need to be available between 6.30 and 9.15 on a Friday evening. But it's not necessary to commit to every Friday. If you can only volunteer for one Friday each term, that is welcomed too! What we can promise is that your volunteering experience will be a hugely rewarding one. Allowing children to thrive, witnessing their enthusiasm and giving them the opportunity to 'just be' can be hugely enjoyable for volunteers to experience. Volunteers must be aged 16 and over.
