Charity providing support to families in Farnham, Haslemere, Godalming & Cranleigh
About
Being a parent has never been easy and Homestart can be a life-line to families with young children who are either going through a hard patch, or just struggling in some way. Whether it’s post-natal depression, isolation or physical health problems, the Homestart volunteers are trained to help and offer support wherever it’s needed. Last year this nationwide charity supported nearly 80,000 children while our local branch, Waverley Homestart, offered support to around 390 children thanks to 77 local volunteers.
Help Needed
You don’t necessarily need to be a parent to help though experience with children is a must. But the main requirements are friendliness and a sympathetic ear. After a short training course you’ll be allocated a family within the Waverley area who you’ll ideally visit for around 2 hours each week. You might be needed simply as a listening ear or helping and playing with young children. Many volunteers offer practical support or quite simply just adult company to a lonely single parent. Others might help parents budget if finances are a concern, helping them to manage their money more effectively. Waverley Homestart are also looking for people to join their Board of Trustees and help with fundraising.
