The benefits of aromatherapy for mind & body

Hi I’m Antonia. I’m delighted to introduce to you my business, Darcey Blossom Aromatherapy (named after my gorgeous girls, Sofia Darcey and Summer Blossom). Here I share with you the positive effects which aromatherapy can have on both our minds and physical body.

What is aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the use of pure essential oils which are thought to help with an extensive variety of both physical and mental complaints. Essential oils have a complex chemical make up which means that a single oil can potentially have many different health benefits.

What is the theory behind it?

Aromatherapy is thought to have been around for the past 6000 years and has been used by many different cultures around the world. Aromatherapy is the use of plant oils to promote psychological and physical wellbeing.

The oils (known as essential oils) are extracted from plants flowers, leaves, roots, peel, bark or resin. There are over 90 essential oils that can be used in aromatherapy. Aromatherapy can be used to promote wellbeing and relaxation and is also thought to help illness and disease. Essential oils are absorbed by the body and enter the blood stream via the skin or lungs. The amount absorbed is very small but it may still have a healing effect on the body.

At Darcey Blossom I only use 100% pure therapeutic grade essential oils from a company based here in the South of England. They produce oils based on their purity and ensure that they are sourced both ethically and environmentally.

How can aromatherapy help you?

For many years I have been interested in women’s health and wellbeing. I am amazed and sometimes astounded by the strong, confident, resilient and beautiful souled women I come into contact with on a daily basis. I am delighted to be able to support these extraordinary women who do so much for others with relaxation, rebalancing, tranquility and time for them to focus on their own wellbeing. I am delighted to support women of all life stages.

What people may expect and what they will actually get.

I work from my semi-rural home in Liphook where I provide a warm and friendly welcome to my clients. I conduct a full and detailed consultation which include medical history as well as lifestyle questions so that together we can work out the best treatment for each person. I offer 45 minute treatments for £30 and 60-minute treatments for £35.

My comfortable couch has soft, fresh linen, there’s relaxing music (plus the additional songs from the birds in my garden) and expertly blended massage oils from your choice of Relax and Soothe, Relax and Uplift, Relax and Balance and Pregnancy safe or for an additional £5 I am able to make clients their own bespoke blend of essential oils and carrier oils to suit their own specific needs and skin type.

We generally start with a short relaxation and some breath work to allow inhalation of the essential oil blend to start the oils penetrating the clients system via the lungs. Many of my clients have not had the opportunity to relax for a very long time so this will give the body time to adjust before I start the massage.

Reasons why my clients first come & then return.

I provide both Aromatherapy massage and reflexology, but by far my most popular treatment includes a combination of a back, neck, shoulder and scalp massage followed by a foot massage working specific reflex and pressure points. I am trained and delighted to offer specific pregnancy massage treatments which support a woman’s body throughout her pregnancy and postnatally. I also offer beautifully presented gift vouchers – what could be a more thoughtful gift than the gift of relaxation? I am currently training in Reiki and I hope to offer this service to my clients from the Autumn.

The future...

I am currently designing beautiful gift boxes which will be tailored to individuals. I will be making them as eco friendly as possible using ethically sourced and fully recyclable / reusable packaging. Using the design services of local people and working in partnership with other small local business to make the products.

If you are interested in an Aromatherapy treatment, bespoke product or gift voucher, or would just like to find out a little bit more about how I maybe able to help you please do not hesitate to get in touch, I would love to hear from you!

Disclaimer

As wonderful as essential oils are they can be dangerous / inappropriate if used incorrectly so always check with a fully trained aromatherapist before using them, never ingest, or use them neat on the skin and keep them away from children and pets.

Interview with Ian Rowley, owner of The Haslemere Bookshop The Haslemere Bookshop is an independent bookshop at the heart of Haslemere High Street selling new and second-hand books, and cards. Did you face any challenges when setting up the business? There has been a bookshop on the High Street for many years. When I took over the shop from Ronald Timms in 2014, I had no idea how a bookshop worked; fortunately the staff (all friends or family) did! Since then, through their hard work, the business has been transformed. Not only does the shop look very different but we are online, more community focussed and our second-hand book section rejuvenated.
