What is the theory behind it?
Aromatherapy is thought to have been around for the past 6000 years and has been used by many different cultures around the world. Aromatherapy is the use of plant oils to promote psychological and physical wellbeing.
The oils (known as essential oils) are extracted from plants flowers, leaves, roots, peel, bark or resin. There are over 90 essential oils that can be used in aromatherapy. Aromatherapy can be used to promote wellbeing and relaxation and is also thought to help illness and disease. Essential oils are absorbed by the body and enter the blood stream via the skin or lungs. The amount absorbed is very small but it may still have a healing effect on the body.
At Darcey Blossom I only use 100% pure therapeutic grade essential oils from a company based here in the South of England. They produce oils based on their purity and ensure that they are sourced both ethically and environmentally.
