Haslemere For Ukraine

May 11, 2022

A volunteer group, Haslemere For Ukraine, was established earlier this month by local residents to support host families that are welcoming Ukrainian refugees to Haslemere and the surrounding villages.

This group has written a comprehensive support pack which outlines the practical support that is available to Ukrainian families. This includes:

o   Language support

o   Financial and practical support checklist

o   Job support

o   Social support networks

o   School places

o   Transport

If you would like help as a host family, we encourage you to read the support pack.

On Facebook, you are welcome to join the Haslemere For Ukraine group.

If you would like to list other relevant support on this page please email This is Haslemere volunteers here.

English Language lessons for Ukrainian individuals & families are available at Pathways Community Support in Haslemere. Get in touch for more information.

The Fernhurst Hub would like to give a warm welcome to any newly arrived Ukrainian families and their hosts. They are offering them a place to meet on Thursdays between 1-3pm in a welcoming, safe and friendly space.

They will offer as much support and information as they can, as well as tea & cake. If you are hosting a family or know of anyone in the local area that is, please help spread the word.

Their wonderful French tutor, Cecile, is running English classes for completely non-English speaking Ukrainians every Tuesday, 11:30-12:30.

For more details, please contact info@fernhursthub.org.uk.

All Ukrainian children that arrive in Haslemere and the surrounding villages have been given a Ukrainian bear, knitted by volunteers.

Interview with Ian Rowley, owner of The Haslemere Bookshop The Haslemere Bookshop is an independent bookshop at the heart of Haslemere High Street selling new and second-hand books, and cards. Did you face any challenges when setting up the business? There has been a bookshop on the High Street for many years. When I took over the shop from Ronald Timms in 2014, I had no idea how a bookshop worked; fortunately the staff (all friends or family) did! Since then, through their hard work, the business has been transformed. Not only does the shop look very different but we are online, more community focussed and our second-hand book section rejuvenated.
