There is something for everyone at the 2022 Haslemere Fringe Festival! 1st - 3rd July, Lion Green

The long-awaited Haslemere Fringe Festival, a volunteer-led event held on Lion Green in the heart of Haslemere, sponsored and supported by the BBC, SW Railways and many other local businesses, schools and youth groups, has bounced back in style after lockdown and is ready to party with a stellar line up of live music, dance and comedy!

This fabulous three-day event attracts over 10,000 visitors and is supporting the wonderful Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice as its official Charity Partner.


The 2022 headliner is Sophie Ellis-Bextor who closes out the Festival on Sunday Night. 


A much-loved British music and dance legend with mega hits such as ‘Groovejet’, ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ and ‘If This Ain’t Love,’ Sophie entertained the nation during lockdown with her now famous Kitchen Discos, whilst releasing her greatest hits album and raising over £1million for ‘BBC Children in Need’ with a 24hr Dance Marathon.

Saturday night sees global British rock superstars, The Feeling with their BAFTA Award winning number ‘Fill My Little World’ and plenty from their new album ‘Loss, Hope, Love’. 


Their lead singer, Dan Gillespie-Sells, is one half of the writing duo behind the West End and Broadway masterpiece ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’ which became a Hollywood hit in 2021.

Britpop favourites Sleeper, who enjoyed huge critical and commercial success in the 90’s and is fronted by one of the era’s biggest female stars, Louise Wener, will perform on Friday night. 


Sleeper will be supported by indie/pop band, Lottery Winners, whose recent album reached No.11 in the UK official album chart.

Also on Friday night, one of comedy’s hottest properties, Seann Walsh, leads the Fringe Comedy Stage with his brilliant observational style, which has seen him appear on stage, festivals and TV nationwide. He is joined by double-Emmy award winner, comedian and actress, Fiona Allen, famous for starring in Smack the Pony, Mock the Week and 8 out of 10 Cats, QI regular, Cally Beaton, with her rollercoaster ride of hilarious anecdotes and punchlines, Jeff Innocent, the rightful winner of the 2021 Comedian of the Year and poet, lyricist and columnist, Matt Harvey.

The Fringe Weekend will also present Dance as an individual art form in its own right, with different styles of Dance from Street to Classic and Tango, Ballroom to Contemporary, Fitness, and Aerial together with Dance Theatre and Performing Arts, including local dance schools and professional dance companies.

The Festival Village includes stalls from local traders and artisans, as well as providing hot and cold food together with bars serving everything from coffee to local gin, wine, Pimms and craft beers.

Interview with Ian Rowley, owner of The Haslemere Bookshop The Haslemere Bookshop is an independent bookshop at the heart of Haslemere High Street selling new and second-hand books, and cards. Did you face any challenges when setting up the business? There has been a bookshop on the High Street for many years. When I took over the shop from Ronald Timms in 2014, I had no idea how a bookshop worked; fortunately the staff (all friends or family) did! Since then, through their hard work, the business has been transformed. Not only does the shop look very different but we are online, more community focussed and our second-hand book section rejuvenated.
