By law you must provide your children with a suitable education, however you see fit. If you are worrying that your child is not ready for school, fed up of school failing your child, or simply know your child would thrive with more freedom, you might want to consider Home Education - and it is not the home school that happened over lockdown! There are no rules as to how, where or when you do it.
You don’t have to be a teacher to do it, you can still work and home educate at the same time, you can hire a tutor if you want, it's easy to sit GCSEs in many subjects and go to college and university, and in most cases you do not need permission.
Most people need a period of time to 'deschool' when the child and parent leave the system, so don't rush into paying for lots of curriculums or online programmes which you may come to hate! Give it time and see what works best for you all.
There is a big Home Education community in our area, with more workshops, classes, activities, day trips and social groups than there are hours in the day. The best way to engage with this community is through Facebook (even if you just have an account created for home ed) and you are always welcome to turn up to social groups to ask questions before you make your decision.
Home Education UK is a great place to start with general enquiries, finding resources and any help you might need to deregister.
Education Otherwise UK is a long running organisation dedicated to helping anyone considering elective home education, as well as assisting anyone who is being illegally off rolled by their school.
Local groups which have lots of social groups, events, resources, discounts and suggestions include:
Elective Home Education West Sussex
For tutorial and other educational services, these are useful local groups:
Home Education Tutors & Services Surrey
