Meet the Maker: The Date Coffee Co

May 04, 2021

Our Meet the Maker series is designed for you to get an insight into the craft behind the products you see advertised on The Virtual High Street.

Haslemere and the surrounding areas have a wealth of talent, and so in this series we want to really showcase the skills used to create the items sold. Without further ado, meet Rachael, co-founder of The Date Coffee Co.

Hi, I am Rachael and I am the co-founder of The Date Coffee Co.

We first discovered the joy of date coffee in Lebanon, and found when we returned that we couldn't find the same products available in the UK other than at a very high price. We did our research, and decided that the best idea was to bring it to you, and The Date Coffee Co was born!

Our date drink, Dafé (pronounced like café) is a cross between coffee, tea and hot chocolate, and we think its a fantastic, caffeine free alternative to more traditional hot drinks. Its best served as a black or white americano. Watch our video below to find out more about the origins of date coffee, and how we make it at our roastery in Hindhead.

As I mentioned in the video, dates are a really special ingredient and offer a lot more than just a caffeine free coffee alternative. They are rich in minerals, especially magnesium and potassium, so dafe makes a great drink for before bed. They are also packed full of antioxidants, and taste fab!

The Date Coffee Co are offering all Virtual High Street customers free delivery with any order placed, until the end of May 2021. Either add 'delfree' into the notes section at checkout or drop them a message.

Interview with Ian Rowley, owner of The Haslemere Bookshop The Haslemere Bookshop is an independent bookshop at the heart of Haslemere High Street selling new and second-hand books, and cards. Did you face any challenges when setting up the business? There has been a bookshop on the High Street for many years. When I took over the shop from Ronald Timms in 2014, I had no idea how a bookshop worked; fortunately the staff (all friends or family) did! Since then, through their hard work, the business has been transformed. Not only does the shop look very different but we are online, more community focussed and our second-hand book section rejuvenated.
