Haslemere library

Haslemere Library offers the chance for local residents to borrow books, audio books and DVDs. They also offer printing and photocopying facilities and run a number of weekly events. These include Pebble Rhymetime and Storytime for parents with young children. Children aged 7 and over can also make new friends at the monthly Chatterbooks reading group. There are also two reading groups for adults - one on the first Wednesday of the month and the other on the first Thursday of the month. Both run from 2.30 until 3.30. Other events include a games club (Saturday from 2 until 4 pm) and a crafting circle on the last Saturday of each month from 10 am until 12 noon. Or, if you need help with IT, there is a Digital Buddy available fortnightly on Tuesdays from 10 am until 12 noon.

How they work:

The Haslemere Library is open fro Tuesday to Saturday between 9.30 and 5.00.

The Haslemere Library is also home to the Haslemere Library of Things. This is a partnership between the library and Love Haslemere Hate Waste, a local green charity which aims to reduce both waste and carbon emissions. The Library of Things is a range of household items available to hire. Please visit the Love Haslemere Hate Waste website for more information or pop into the library.

How to help:

There are a number of volunteering roles available across the network of Surrey's Libraries including Haslemere. These are suitable for people of all ages and with varying skills. These include helping with events and activities such as Story Time and Rhymetime or becoming a Digital Support volunteer, helping people to become more confident with digital technology. Or perhaps your skills are more suited to becoming a Stock Support volunteer, helping to ensure that books are neatly displayed and any necessary book repairs are carried out. These are just a handful of ways in which you could get involved at the local Haslemere Library. More information can be found at the Volunteering in Libraries page.

If you would like to volunteer to help with the Haslemere Library of Things, please visit the Love Haslemere Hate Waste website for more information or pop into the library.

Interview with Ian Rowley, owner of The Haslemere Bookshop The Haslemere Bookshop is an independent bookshop at the heart of Haslemere High Street selling new and second-hand books, and cards. Did you face any challenges when setting up the business? There has been a bookshop on the High Street for many years. When I took over the shop from Ronald Timms in 2014, I had no idea how a bookshop worked; fortunately the staff (all friends or family) did! Since then, through their hard work, the business has been transformed. Not only does the shop look very different but we are online, more community focussed and our second-hand book section rejuvenated.
