THE EDIT x Olive and Bloom Grazing

Feb 04, 2021

Our first This Is Haslemere Edit is brought to you by Lisa from Olive and Bloom Grazing, and is packed with tasty treats made on our doorstep.

We count ourselves lucky to live in such an inspiring and creative area such as Haslemere. Since setting up Olive & Bloom Grazing, we’ve come across so many amazing local companies, from which we’ve sourced products from or collaborated with. Thanks to the Virtual High Street, we’ve also been introduced to some fabulous small businesses, which we’ve been using both the business and personally. We’ve listed five of our favourites – it was a hard choice to narrow it down to just five!

Sarah Bakes Cakes – Chocolate cupcakes

We’ve always admired Sarah’s cakes on social media and recently indulged in some of her stunning chocolate cupcakes topped with Terrys Chocolate Orange, to add a bit of cheer to a recent Lockdown birthday! They certainly did the trick.

Not only do Sarah’s cakes look amazing, but her attention to detail is also second to none and the cakes taste delicious. You can’t help but smile when you see one of Sarah’s cakes, from the characters she creates for toppers to the elegance of her buttercream layer cakes, everything always looks divine. If you’re looking for a pick me up during Lockdown 3, then please try a box of cupcakes, you won’t be disappointed!

Noble & Stace Chocolatiers – Dark chocolate Pastilles

What can we say! Noble & Stace chocolates are like little pieces of art, almost too good to eat –almost! We recently included the Dark Chocolate Pastilles in our Festive Grazing Boxes, which are the perfect finisher to a meal. Beautiful discs of dark chocolate topped with a crystalised almond, orange and cranberry. We also have our eye on the Valentine’s Day range which has just been launched, which would make the perfect gift for a loved one.

You’ll find a gorgeous variety of chocolate, and we love the fact that they work with other regional brands for fillings; making the most of what we have to offer on our doorstep.

The Lion’s Den - Latte

The hatch at The Lion’s Den has been a blessing during the various lockdowns! There is nothing we like more than a latte and a natter on the tables outside (when social distancing rules allow). It’s a short walk from our HQ in Camelsdale, so we get some fresh air, a great coffee, a chat and more often than not a cake on the side! The Lion’s Den has been a great addition to Wey Hill.

Dylan’s – Honeycomb ice cream

Dylan’s has been a firm favourite with both our families for many years now. We were regular visitors during the summer lockdown and loved the novelty of being served ice creams on the famous stick! Ben has made such a success of Dylans, and the selection of ice creams and sorbets is mouthwatering. Some of our first conversations about starting our business took place over one of Dylan’s Honeycomb ice creams, sat in the sunshine on Lion Green.

Club Lunch Haslemere – Roasted Veg and Goats Cheese Ciabatta

Club Lunch’s tempting lunches make working from home much more interesting! A personal favourite is the Roasted veg and goats cheese ciabatta. Packed full of roasted peppers, beets and courgette with goats cheese – so delicious. We recently booked a lunch to take on a long winter walk, along with some prosecco to have halfway around!

Olive & Bloom Grazing – Classic Grazing Box

Our Classic Grazing Box for two is our most popular. It’s filled with a beautiful selection of award-winning cheeses from our region. We try to incorporate new cheeses regularly to keep the boxes fresh. But our staple cheese, is Brighton Blue from Highfield Dairy. It is an absolute belter of a cheese, with a beautiful mellow blue flavour and a slightly salty finish, which works perfectly with our local honeycomb. It has won numerous awards and a Super Gold award at the World Cheese Awards.

Alongside the cheeses, we have a delicious selection of cured meats, pickles, antipasti, fresh fruit and Peter’s Yard Crispbread crackers. It’s really important to us to source our products as locally as possible and keep the quality extremely high; incorporating products that our customers might not have come across before. We’re looking forward to creating our Valentine’s Day boxes, which we’ll be sharing very soon!

Interview with Ian Rowley, owner of The Haslemere Bookshop The Haslemere Bookshop is an independent bookshop at the heart of Haslemere High Street selling new and second-hand books, and cards. Did you face any challenges when setting up the business? There has been a bookshop on the High Street for many years. When I took over the shop from Ronald Timms in 2014, I had no idea how a bookshop worked; fortunately the staff (all friends or family) did! Since then, through their hard work, the business has been transformed. Not only does the shop look very different but we are online, more community focussed and our second-hand book section rejuvenated.
