Welcome to your space

Introducing our Virtual High Street, developed by the community, for our community.

Welcome to your new Virtual High Street directory which we hope will be the start of a Haslemere website that can be developed together over time. It has been designed by volunteers in our community to respond to the need that we could see for a platform to support our local businesses and local economy.

Our Virtual High Street on Facebook has been so popular and our community has brought it to life with their passion, interaction and mutual support. It has given our local businesses a valuable lifeline at a challenging time and made shopping local a reality. More than that, a whole new community has appeared that was hidden before now.

We saw this as the next step to support businesses to be able to showcase their amazing talents and products to a non-Facebook audience and further afield.

The power of Collaboration and coming together

This is the power of community collaboration in action. When a team of passionate people come together to solve a problem or build on ideas to make them a reality. It’s just one amazing example of what communities can achieve.

We don’t want it to end here...

We want to continue to build this website to make it a powerful resource for our community and for our Town, so that we can showcase the things that make Haslemere special to the outside world. Community collaboration is about working together to understand ourselves better and creating an environment that allows us all to flourish. It’s led by the ideas, needs and passions of the people that choose Haslemere as their home. The possibilities are endless with the diversity of people that live here, each with their own passions, experiences and skills.

So here is your first gift to yourselves……….... Happy Shopping!

Interview with Ian Rowley, owner of The Haslemere Bookshop The Haslemere Bookshop is an independent bookshop at the heart of Haslemere High Street selling new and second-hand books, and cards. Did you face any challenges when setting up the business? There has been a bookshop on the High Street for many years. When I took over the shop from Ronald Timms in 2014, I had no idea how a bookshop worked; fortunately the staff (all friends or family) did! Since then, through their hard work, the business has been transformed. Not only does the shop look very different but we are online, more community focussed and our second-hand book section rejuvenated.
