National charity offering free, confidential advice to give people the knowledge they need to move forward

Citizens Advice gives people the knowledge and confidence they need, whatever their circumstances and whoever they are. It is a national charity and network of local charities that offer free, confidential advice both over the phone and in person. They are totally independent and impartial. They are also the statutory consumer watchdog for the energy and post industries.

How they work:

The Citizens Advice service offers free, confidential advice to help people to resolve their problems. They are the UK’s largest advice provider and are equipped to deal with any issue, from anyone. Issues span debt and employment matters to consumer and housing plus everything in between. The Citizens Advice Bureaux have over 3,300 community locations across England and Wales, run by 338 individual charities. Of the 28,500 people who work for Citizens Advice, over 22,000 of them are volunteers.

How to help:

Nationwide, over 16,000 highly trained volunteers support the delivery of the service at Citizens Advice. Volunteers come from a range of backgrounds. There are a range of roles in local Citizens Advice offices and you'll be sure to find a role that fits your skills, availability, experience and / or interests. Roles could include being trained as an adviser, becoming a trustee, working on reception, helping with admin, getting involved in community engagement, fundraising or assisting with social media. Volunteers at Citizens Advice can improve the lives of people within the local community.

Since then, through their hard work, the business has been transformed. Not only does the shop look very different but we are online, more community focussed and our second-hand book section rejuvenated.
