Haslemere Educational Museum

Haslemere Museum has three large permanent galleries and two temporary exhibit rooms as well as a library, archive and a dedicated education room. It displays over 240,000 natural history specimens, along with over 140,000 human history artefacts from around the world. The grounds of the museum cover an area of over 15,000 square metres. The grounds are home to a large pond and gazebo, an observation beehive and a tree trail that follows the museum's boundary through an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Their mission statement is 'to forward and advance the study of science, literature and the fine arts by means of a well-equipped museum of natural history and objects of art and of a scientific, literary and historical nature.'

How they work:

Admission is free but a voluntary donation is suggested. The museum galleries and grounds are open from Tuesdays to Saturdays between 10 am and 4.30 pm. The museum library is open on Tuesdays between 10 am and 3 pm.

How to help:

The Museum has a long tradition of volunteer support. Volunteers are involved in all aspects of running the museum from greeting visitors to providing educational workshops for children. Volunteers are also involved in cataloging collections and gardening and much more.

If you would like to find out more about volunteering, you can find out more and download an application form at https://www.haslemeremuseum.co.uk/support/volunteer/volunteers.html

Did you face any challenges when setting up the business? There has been a bookshop on the High Street for many years. Since then, through their hard work, the business has been transformed. Not only does the shop look very different but we are online, more community focussed and our second-hand book section rejuvenated.
