Haslemere’s Repair Café

Nov 04, 2021

Distressed household items can now be repaired at Haslemere's very own Repair Café!

Broken hairdryer?  Wobbly Cupboard door?  Frayed iPhone cable?  Don’t throw them in the landfill... Help is at hand!  Bring your distressed household items to the Repair Café on the first Saturday of every month, 10a.m. - 1p.m, at Haslemere Town Hall.

Forgot your item or it’s just too big to carry?  No problem! Pop in and have a coffee and a chat with one of our super-friendly repairers, and let’s see if we can follow-up to help with anything that needs fixing at home.

Love Haslemere Hate Waste and Transition Haslemere have teamed-up to run the Haslemere Repair Café, a way to fix everyday household products and extend their life to save them from landfill. We have a team of fixers who can repair garden and household tools, small electrical items, toys, clothing, bikes and lots of other items. Just ask us!

Love Haslemere Hate Waste is a local charity that’s making waste-free living the norm. Having run a ‘virtual’ repair café online for a few months during Covid restrictions, our long-term aim is to establish a community workshop and tool library - all donations from the Haslemere Repair Café will go to support this.

At the first live
Repair Café on Sat 2nd Oct (billed to coincide with the Farmer’s Market), a steady stream of objects otherwise destined for the landfill were brought in, repaired and given a new lease of life.

Love Haslemere Hate Waste founder Victoria Page said:  "I’ve been overwhelmed by how many people turned up to have their items repaired and the talent of the repairers who know how to fix all these items. Our ministry of menders repaired lots of broken items ranging from scales and toasters to the more quirky items such as a Balinese parasol, a Polaroid camera and a wooden cheese board. We’ve extended the life of so many items already, saving people money in the process. This is just the beginning."

If you cannot get to the Repair Café in person this time, you can continue to book repairs online at:

DIY-minded individuals who would like to volunteer to take on repair projects can do so here:

Repairs are free but those who use the service are asked to make a voluntary donation to the LHHW JustGiving page.  Funds go toward the purchase of tools and other useful items that will be lent out to members of the public through a ‘Library of Things’ - saving them expensive purchases of items that do not get used very often (such as lawn mowers, hedge-blowers, power-drills etc):

The
Repair Café is seeking a location for a permanent workshop where repairs can be carried out and training can be offered to those seeking to improve their repair skills. If you can help, please get in touch through our website or facebook page:

Interview with Ian Rowley, owner of The Haslemere Bookshop The Haslemere Bookshop is an independent bookshop at the heart of Haslemere High Street selling new and second-hand books, and cards. Did you face any challenges when setting up the business? There has been a bookshop on the High Street for many years. When I took over the shop from Ronald Timms in 2014, I had no idea how a bookshop worked; fortunately the staff (all friends or family) did! Since then, through their hard work, the business has been transformed. Not only does the shop look very different but we are online, more community focussed and our second-hand book section rejuvenated.
