Sound Healing - an antidote to a hectic life

Nov 22, 2021

With Karen Eccles of Pilates from Within

Just another busy day

You are coming to the end of another busy day that has left you mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausted. You have an uneasy feeling of imbalance and an urge to run away and hide from the world. You find yourself wondering just how life has got this hectic, yet again.

But what if I told you that there is an antidote? And that it is a longer lasting and more profound option than collapsing on the sofa with the latest boxset and a glass of wine in hand.

Self-care is important and essential, not indulgent, or luxurious. Healing practices such as meditation, mindfulness, energy, and sound healing are now more widely known. These healing modalities have been proven to have a significant impact on our mental and emotional wellbeing, enabling us to manage everyday stresses and situations more easily.

Meet Karen

I would like you to close your eyes for a moment and imagine carving out an evening just for yourself. Choosing to spend it snuggled under a cosy blanket, with nothing to do but be guided into a relaxed meditative state. You float away in a sea of calm to the ethereal sounds of the beautifully crafted Tibetan Singing bowls. The whole experience feels like a dream and leaves you feeling renewed and restored. Doesn’t it sound wonderful?

What is sound healing?

Sound healing, a form of energy healing, is one of the oldest and most natural healing modalities known. Regardless of where you are on your healing journey it is an accessible route to meditation. The musical vibrations and frequencies of the instruments used resonate deeply to a cellular level, quietening even the busiest of minds. They restore and optimise the flow of energy in our body, dissolving emotional energy blockages that you did not realise you held within you.

Everything has a vibrational frequency, including ourselves, so it is not surprising that the musical frequencies of the Tibetan Bowls can have such a significant effect on how we feel. Sound healing brings the body back to vibrational balance and harmony, and just like your favourite song they can evoke memories and lift your spirits.

What to expect

For both online or in person sessions, the most important part is for you to be comfortable, get cosy under a blanket, wear loose clothing, light a candle or incense. This is your opportunity to switch off from the world, forget the to-do list and be present in the moment.

You are then guided by my voice into a peaceful meditative state, connecting you to your breath, and quietening the mind. Holding space for you so that you can completely relax and invite in the healing that awaits you.

Once the bowls start to sing the sound frequencies begin to slow down your brainwaves, creating a deeply restorative state which activates the body’s self-healing mechanism. Bathing in the sounds you will also feel the vibrations, giving each of us a unique and individual experience.

Towards the end of the session, you are gently guided back into a higher state of consciousness. I offer a post session discussion where I share any insights that I may have received, you can also share your experience and ask questions should you wish.

Interview with Ian Rowley, owner of The Haslemere Bookshop The Haslemere Bookshop is an independent bookshop at the heart of Haslemere High Street selling new and second-hand books, and cards. Did you face any challenges when setting up the business? There has been a bookshop on the High Street for many years. When I took over the shop from Ronald Timms in 2014, I had no idea how a bookshop worked; fortunately the staff (all friends or family) did! Since then, through their hard work, the business has been transformed. Not only does the shop look very different but we are online, more community focussed and our second-hand book section rejuvenated.
