Haslemere residents are invited to be part of a venture helping the vital battle against Climate Change - to make Climate Action Pledges to be given to the UN Secretary General at the most important meeting of our time, COP26 in Glasgow this autumn. (COP stands for Conference of the Parties and is part of the UN Climate Change Conference 2021.)
Thousands of these Pledges, including many from children, will be carried there by Haslemere granny Tess Burrows and her granddaughter Elsie. They will be slogging 600 miles by bicycle, raising awareness for getting around in a sustainable way without using fossil fuels, whatever age. Tess is 73, Elsie 13.
Tess is an author, explorer and speaker. Many will have spotted her around Haslemere pulling tyres or selling her inspirational adventure books for charity. She’s travelled to the far corners of our planet for Peace - though it was close to home on the Haslemere trails that she recently broke her shoulder! And now that all the world leaders are coming relatively close to home in Glasgow she believes this is our time to take responsibility to play our part and make a difference.
