THE EDIT x JJ's Cocktail Club

Apr 06, 2021

This edition of THE EDIT is brought to you by Joshua Grant, founder of JJ's Cocktail Club.

it is fantastic to see so many small businesses blossom on the Virtual High Street, and the way in which everyone has come together in the last few months to support one another is heart-warming. Having only started my little venture in November, I am so thankful for the Virtual High Street for the innovative platform as it has provided me with the help and knowledge of so many local businesses and getting to know the people behind them has been fab. Here are just a few of the businesses that I have come across and my favourite products from their ranges.

INZHO – Dove Candle

These candles are simply stunning. In a time where life is a little bit difficult and stressful, these candles are brilliant to help you relax and wind down. With the ‘Dove’ candle, the essential oils inside are designed to promote inner peace, and whenever I light this candle, I certainly feel calmer. I am not ashamed to say that it is perfect to have lit when taking that ‘end of the week’ bath to help you wind down.

This is Haslemere featured INZHO in our first edition of MEET THE MAKER, read more here.

Hannah Banana: Bath, Body and Home – Bath Bombs

Speaking of relaxing baths, Hannah’s bath bombs certainly do the trick! I have recently tried the rose scented bath bombs and they smell incredible! The best thing about these, and all of Hannah’s products, is that they are totally eco-friendly, completely free of harmful plastics and palm oil. I feel this aspect is so important right now, as we all need to be taking care of this unique planet that we live on - despite the recent Mars landing I doubt we can be moving there anytime soon.

Foraged Fire – Chilli Jam

The perfect accompaniment to so many foods. Whether it be served alongside a delightful cheese board or used as a marinade for your chicken wings grilled on the barbecue, this Chilli Jam packs a real punch! In the summer months I am never without a jar in my fridge, adding it to everything possible to give me that lovely spicy kick that I crave! Their hot sauces are also worth checking out if you aren’t afraid of a little bit of heat!

Village Spirit Collective - Haslemere Gin

With so many amazing local companies producing some fantastic spirits right now, it was not easy to try and whittle it down to one! However, I just had to include this particular gin as it sparked my initial interests in how different flavours can work so brilliantly together. Having first tasted this at Haslemere Christmas Market a couple of years ago, I just had to find out more about botanicals and how they can create such wonderful taste infusions.

L&S Gift and Coffee House - L&S Prosecco

You can take the boy out of Liphook, but you can never take Liphook out of the boy! Having lived in Liphook for the first 23 years of my life, it is so great to see a business bring the community together and spread that little bit of happiness to so many. The fact that they have managed to grow bigger and better in this difficult period just highlights what a valuable asset their shop is!

If you haven’t yet tried it, I would definitely recommend their very own Prosecco! With a crisp, delicate flavour that leaves you wanting more; memories of summer evenings at Goodwood with friends enjoying the racing and music all come flooding back! Pair this up with my very own Hibiscus Flower botanicals and you end up with a drink that takes your breath away with the dark red tones and sweet, cranberry-like taste. Well worth a go!

JJ’s Cocktail Club – Floral Botanical Trio Set

Our most popular selection of botanicals since our launch in November has certainly been the floral set. As previously mentioned, the petals of both rose and hibiscus flowers offer a beautifully sweet flavour and incredibly vibrant colours that can really brighten up your day.

Also containing elderflower in the set, the flavours really do transport you to the days of fun in the sun. Although created with the intent of flavouring gin, the full range of botanicals can be used to provide a boost to any drink of your choice. I personally love to use the dried orange peel in a vodka and lemonade, and I have had positive reviews from customers who have created themselves various herbal tea concoctions. Each set come with a set of infusion bags, meaning that you can contain the botanicals if you don’t wish to have them floating in your drink and all of our products are focused on protecting the environment, with all aspects of the products either reusable, recyclable or biodegradable.

JJ's would like to offer readers of this edition of THE EDIT 20% off their basket when purchasing botanicals, simply use the code EDIT20 at checkout. Thanks Josh!

Interview with Ian Rowley, owner of The Haslemere Bookshop The Haslemere Bookshop is an independent bookshop at the heart of Haslemere High Street selling new and second-hand books, and cards. Did you face any challenges when setting up the business? There has been a bookshop on the High Street for many years. When I took over the shop from Ronald Timms in 2014, I had no idea how a bookshop worked; fortunately the staff (all friends or family) did! Since then, through their hard work, the business has been transformed. Not only does the shop look very different but we are online, more community focussed and our second-hand book section rejuvenated.
