A charity bringing baroque music to Haslemere

The Waverley Ensemble was founded by Ishani Bhoola in 2011 to bring high quality baroque music, performed by professional musicians in the Haslemere area, to the local community. In addition to performing some wonderful music, a core aim of the venture is also to bring the community together through a shared love and passion for classical music.

Under the charity's name, Ishani also promotes concerts as an Artist Manager and has founded a number of educational projects. These include the International Youth Orchestra Bridges and the Haslemere International String Competition. The latter was founded in 2017 to give talented young string players a chance to gain significant solo concert exposure. It attracts talented youth from across the South and West of the UK.

How they work:

The Waverley Ensemble hold a series of concerts each year. The principal venue and focal point for concerts is St Christopher's Church in Haslemere. The church can hold up to 150 people. Thanks to its wonderful acoustics, intimate setting and central location, it provides the perfect setting for these concerts.

Tickets to concerts can be purchased online at www.waverleyensemble.com/concerts or on the door, subject to availability.

How to help:

The Waverley Ensemble would welcome some assistance with the administration involved in running these concerts.

The Waverley Ensemble is a registered charity, no 1180114. All the trustees and volunteers at HHH are unpaid.

Interview with Ian Rowley, owner of The Haslemere Bookshop The Haslemere Bookshop is an independent bookshop at the heart of Haslemere High Street selling new and second-hand books, and cards. Did you face any challenges when setting up the business? There has been a bookshop on the High Street for many years. When I took over the shop from Ronald Timms in 2014, I had no idea how a bookshop worked; fortunately the staff (all friends or family) did! Since then, through their hard work, the business has been transformed. Not only does the shop look very different but we are online, more community focussed and our second-hand book section rejuvenated.
