Haslemere Fringe Festival

The Haslemere Fringe Festival is an entirely volunteer run, not-for-profit event that takes place bi-annually on Lion Green.

How they work:

The Haslemere Fringe Festival is a not-for-profit festival of comedy, dance and music. Previous headliners include Kitchen Disco legend Sophie Ellis-Bextor along with iconic rock and pop bands such as The Lottery Winners, The Feeling, Sleeper and Toploader. Comedians have included Seann Walsh, Cally Beaton and a guest appearance from John Bishop.

In addition to the headliner acts, each Fringe festival hosts over 50 live bands, emerging new talent, dance acts, comedy, poetry, children’s entertainment, local artisans and more.

The next festival takes place between 5 and 7 July 2024.

How to help:

The Haslemere Fringe Festival is a charity event run and supported entirely by an amazing network of volunteers from the local community and beyond. The next festival takes place between 5 and 7 July 2024 with set up from 3rd July and take down on 8th July.

Volunteers are vital to the vibrancy and smooth running of the event. The help of volunteers also ensures that ticket prices for the event can be kept affordable.

Volunteers are required to work on the bar and at the entrance gate. Volunteer stewards are also required to patrol around the site or to be positioned at an allocated point within the site. In addition, volunteers are needed to help set up prior to opening and to take down fencing and infrastructure following the event. Volunteers with experience and expertise in social media are also welcomed.

Volunteer shifts tend to be 3 hours in length. As a gesture of goodwill, volunteers are given free entry to the festival on the day on which they are volunteering.

Interview with Ian Rowley, owner of The Haslemere Bookshop The Haslemere Bookshop is an independent bookshop at the heart of Haslemere High Street selling new and second-hand books, and cards. Did you face any challenges when setting up the business? There has been a bookshop on the High Street for many years. When I took over the shop from Ronald Timms in 2014, I had no idea how a bookshop worked; fortunately the staff (all friends or family) did! Since then, through their hard work, the business has been transformed. Not only does the shop look very different but we are online, more community focussed and our second-hand book section rejuvenated.
