Meet Caroline

Feb 14, 2021

I moved to Haslemere with my husband and three children in 2011 having returned from living in Asia and we feel very blessed to call Haslemere our home.

Having lived in some very large Asian cities and as someone who enjoys running I thoroughly appreciate the stunning countryside that encircles Haslemere. I feel passionately about helping in our community and have had the opportunity to volunteer at a few of the many wonderful charitable organisations that our town has including the Food Bank, Haslewey Community Centre, The Haslemere Kitchen and The Youth Hub.

Whilst living in Jakarta, Indonesia I had the privilege of setting up a charitable community based website for expatriate families. I loved being able to provide valuable information while bringing people together to create the content.

I had the pleasure of meeting Catherine when she made a call out for residents to get involved in the Haslemere Co-Lab. When we spoke about her vision for collaboration and a community website seemed a logical step in order to provide a central hub for people to connect via, but also to provide comprehensive information about all our town has to offer for both residents and visitors alike.

After many years of being a stay at home Mum I am now lucky enough to be pursuing a long held passion for nutrition and studying for a Nutritional Therapy degree. I lead the Health & Wellness area and handle the day to day admin of the website.

Bringing This is Haslemere to life has been a wonderful collaborative effort by us all but we have only touched the surface with community information content and you can really help us to build this part of the website. Do you run or know of a sports club that you would like to see listed? What church do you attend and would like to see listed? A baby group you love? A community group? Really anything and everything that you can think of that is valuable information for our community & for visitors is welcome so please get in touch at info@thisishaslemere.co.uk, we would love to hear from you!

Interview with Ian Rowley, owner of The Haslemere Bookshop The Haslemere Bookshop is an independent bookshop at the heart of Haslemere High Street selling new and second-hand books, and cards. Did you face any challenges when setting up the business? There has been a bookshop on the High Street for many years. When I took over the shop from Ronald Timms in 2014, I had no idea how a bookshop worked; fortunately the staff (all friends or family) did! Since then, through their hard work, the business has been transformed. Not only does the shop look very different but we are online, more community focussed and our second-hand book section rejuvenated.
