The Best of Takeaways

Mar 30, 2021

The town has spoken! Your food delivery recommendations.

After a long day at work, the idea cooking can just be one step too far. Friday nights are definitely not for preparing a meal, and the subsequent kitchen clean up cooking entails and its nice to have a treat whatever day of the week. Instead of cooking tonight, take the slog out and make sure the maximum effort you are exerting is choosing a takeaway and opening a bottle of wine! There is a wide and diverse selection of takeaway options locally, and Haslemere has you covered.

Having crowd sourced from The Virtual High Street - Haslemere, the following restaurants and takeaway services have come out time and time again as the favourite local options of our residents. There are plenty of options and a cuisine to suit whatever you feel in the mood for. Read on!

BEST FOR: Plant Based Delights: Sacred Chow

If you follow a plant based diet, Sacred Chow should be your go to for takeaway, and they deliver 7 nights a week! Customer favourites include the Katsu Curry and Moroccan Tagine, and all their food is delivered in fully compostable packaging, making it an even better choice for an eco friendly dinner treat. If you’re looking for dessert, they offer an add on of Jude’s Vegan Ice cream to round off your meal.

Local James said "Fantastic meal. We’ve now had every dish off the menu at different times and every one has been absolutely delicious. This time we had the Mexican pozole and the black bean chilli and both were scrumptious. Comfort food yet healthy and without the horrible lethargic feel you often get from a takeaway. We love the Sacred Chow and would highly recommend to anyone vegan or not!"

BEST FOR: When only a burger will do: Brasa Burger

Brasa Burger in Weyhill claim to have the magical touch when creating a gourmet burger, and their customers agree. Theirs is the most visited page in our directory with people looking for the best burger around. They offer a simple menu: burger, double burger or veggie burger, but what they do, they do with style.

Chiara says: "The burgers were so tasty and nothing like I have tasted before from a takeaway service! 100% will be ordering from here again".

Highly recommended: The Spread Eagle, Liss.

BEST FOR: South African BBQ Vibes: Bring and Braai

The new kids on the food van block, Bring and Braai hit the town with a bang when they started serving in January. With delicious options like ribs and boerewors, Bring and Braai offer mouth-watering food and friendly service. Make sure you book your slot for collection during COVID as they book up fast!

Bring and Braai visit the local villages in Surrey and Hants on different days of the week, so make sure you check their website to find out which day they serve in a layby near you.

Acsec said "Had a family take away this evening. Very impressed. Great food, the ribs were fantastic & the burger was juicy & tasty. Service was swift and friendly with click and collect. "

BEST FOR: Lovely Local Food: Olivers

Olivers is a bit of an institution in Haslemere. If you haven’t pitched up in the café and lost hours with friends, sampling their delicious menu, then frankly you have missed out.

While everything is closed, they are offering classic favourites like the buttermilk chicken burger  and their specials, which have included welsh rarebit fries, plus the options for children are extensive too.

A local café believing in collaboration, Oliver’s source their meat from local butchers Seabrights, and the meals they create are tasty.

Hannah said "Food is lovely and the cakes are delicious . Highly recommended".

Highly recommended: The Apple Tree on Weyhill.

BEST FOR: Lazy lunches: Club Lunch Haslemere

If you’ve not yet discovered the joy that is Club Lunch Haslemere, you're in for a treat. The only ‘complaint’ is too many great choices. If you love a meat feast try the Mufaletta sandwich, or the lovely soups and salads. Dropped on your doorstep Monday to Friday, Club Lunch Haslemere makes for a delicious lunch option.

Caroline said "Outstanding lunches and service from Vicky! As a vegetarian, I normally really struggle to find places that give me choice... I have it in abundance here. My meat-eating hubby is also super impressed!

Highly recommend everyone to tuck in to a Club Lunch! Five stars".

Highly recommended: The Lions Den, Weyhill.

BEST FOR: Indian Food: Madhuban to Go

Michelin recommended Madhuban has a restaurant in Liss, but a bit closer to home is the ever popular Madhuban to Go, in Liphook. Pick up all your favourites from the restaurant and take home for a delicious takeaway. The Madhuban also sell their sauces to cook at home, which can be purchased in a number of outlets including Applegarth Farm Shop and Sticks Sandwiches (new for 2021).

"It has become one of our favourite treats during this lockdown to order a curry from Madhuban2Go. Ordering online is easy, the service excellent and they always deliver on time and the food is piping hot. We've tried several different dishes now and all have been delicious. The menu is very good and there are many more dishes we're looking forward to trying."

Highly recommended: Banyan in Fernhurst and The Gurka Durbar for Nepalese food.

BEST FOR: A taste of Italy: Guido’s

Recommended time and time again is Guido’s in Liphook. It’s a delightfully intimate restaurant for eat in dining, and the takeaway pizza options are in a class of their own. Their classics are delicious and my personal favourite is the Caprina; a white based pizza with caramelised onion, red pepper and goats cheese.

Guido said "1 year ago we sold our 1st pizza, then got promptly shut. Since then, much mozzarella has melted, a lot of tomato has passed under our bridges, 5,601 espressos have been consumed  and many miles covered in all sorts of weather (personal favourite was the snowy nights...) to deliver to Liphook and all the surrounding towns. Soon, we will hopefully and finally open our doors to our fantastic clients who have kept us going all through a challenging and very different year than we had expected. So with that in mind, I wish to thank  all our lovely customers from the bottom my heart for making sure we still exist now, and all the very talented artisans and professionals who took part in building our small joyous restaurant from the ashes of a neglected site. We certainly couldn't have done it without all your support."

Highly recommended: Vaporetto Pizza Truck, various locations depending on the day.

BEST FOR: Asian Cuisine: The Good Earth

Finding a good Chinese can be a hard task, but The Good Earth on Weyhill is a fab option. It has an extensive menu of all the traditional favourites, and if you’re a fan of a prawn toast, you won’t be disappointed. Customers rave about the range of veggie options on offer, and according to Trip Advisor reviews, it’s the best Chinese restaurant in town!

Highly recommended: The Green Dragon, Liphook for Thai food.

BEST FOR: A treat: Bools Farm Food

Bools Farm Food is a curveball, as its not your normal order and collect takeaway. You must pre-order, and slots for the weekend book up quickly, but if you're a sushi fiend then its hard to call to mind another locally that offers the quality of sushi provided here.

The sushi looks gorgeous, is super fresh and melts in your mouth. Their menu changes seasonally, but its absolutely worth a try for a book-in-advance special occasion.

Clare says "Just exceptional! Ordered a variety of sushi and hot dishes and it’s just all so beautifully presented and packaged. Highlights were the Dragon Roll and the Pork Belly Bau Buns."

Interview with Ian Rowley, owner of The Haslemere Bookshop The Haslemere Bookshop is an independent bookshop at the heart of Haslemere High Street selling new and second-hand books, and cards. Did you face any challenges when setting up the business? There has been a bookshop on the High Street for many years. When I took over the shop from Ronald Timms in 2014, I had no idea how a bookshop worked; fortunately the staff (all friends or family) did! Since then, through their hard work, the business has been transformed. Not only does the shop look very different but we are online, more community focussed and our second-hand book section rejuvenated.
