For the festive period when there's customers searching for a product or service that you offer, when they search for it you want them to find your business, don't you? That means your website needs to be ranking on the major search engines, and for that you'll need SEO but also content to make you rank AND connect with your customers to help sell to them.

When you do your SEO content right, you will see your website appear for search terms relevant to your product or services. And over time you should see a great return on your SEO content investment.

If you want to get your website ranking for Christmas shoppers, then it's not too late, but it's certainly late enough. I'll explain why and how you can make a start on getting your website ranking.

When should I start with SEO for my website marketing this Christmas?

SEO content writing what is it

The thing with SEO is it's a process that needs time. It requires quality content to be published regularly on your website. Then over time, your content will earn your website rankings on the major search engines.

When should I start publishing my SEO Christmas content to rank in time for the festive period?

Each business will be targeting different keywords and search terms, which come with different difficulties. So when you should start your SEO is really unpredictable, but most definitely sooner rather than later - ideally 6 months before the busy festive shopping period. We don't have that currently, but 3 months is enough time to make an impact.

Blogging, copywriting and website content are all vital when it comes to completing SEO for your business. We call it SEO content writing.

What kind of content should I be writing to rank?

It depends on what you have to offer to your customers. You should be publishing a range of website content with SEO in mind. These include:

  • Blogs
  • Product descriptions/pages
  • Service pages

All of your content needs to be thought about. Before writing, consider your customers - what will they be looking for on your website. Alongside answering that question, you can get some keywords and data from the likes of Google to see what people are searching. Then when you have keyword information you can use this to create your SEO content.

Interview with Ian Rowley, owner of The Haslemere Bookshop The Haslemere Bookshop is an independent bookshop at the heart of Haslemere High Street selling new and second-hand books, and cards. Did you face any challenges when setting up the business? There has been a bookshop on the High Street for many years. When I took over the shop from Ronald Timms in 2014, I had no idea how a bookshop worked; fortunately the staff (all friends or family) did! Since then, through their hard work, the business has been transformed. Not only does the shop look very different but we are online, more community focussed and our second-hand book section rejuvenated.
