Feb 12, 2021

When we see great content that we think you might like we will share the love. If you see short articles and videos that our Business community might like, send it to us!

Freakonomics Radio

  • Why do we seek comfort in the familiar?
  • How to succeed at being authentic. (Hint: carefully)
  • Is economic growth the wrong goal?

Freakonomics radio is a brilliant podcast and looks to find the “hidden side of everything” in an interesting and fun way.

Lots of variety depending on your mood from politics to business, human nature to sport.

You can find it in your podcast app, online or on audible. They have also written a book which you can order into Haslemere Bookshop.

How I Built This with Guy Raz

'How I Built This' is an NPR.org series hosted by journalist Guy Raz. It gives a fascinating insight into the journeys of different businesses through different verticals and with different limitations. Some you may of heard of, some not, but it’s really interesting to hear about journeys in business, the mistakes, the successes and the stories behind the brands. Some of my favourites are:

Ben & Jerry’s:
Ben Cohen And Jerry Greenfield (listen here).

AirBNB: Joe Gebbia (listen here).

Beyond Meat: Ethan Brown (listen here).

Wikipedia: Jimmy Wales (listen here).

Spanx: Sarah Blakely (listen here).

Available online and on your podcast app.

Enjoy!

Interview with Ian Rowley, owner of The Haslemere Bookshop The Haslemere Bookshop is an independent bookshop at the heart of Haslemere High Street selling new and second-hand books, and cards. Did you face any challenges when setting up the business? There has been a bookshop on the High Street for many years. When I took over the shop from Ronald Timms in 2014, I had no idea how a bookshop worked; fortunately the staff (all friends or family) did! Since then, through their hard work, the business has been transformed. Not only does the shop look very different but we are online, more community focussed and our second-hand book section rejuvenated.
